Attica Ramblers

Statement from the Attica Consolidated School Corporation Board of School Trustees

Over the past eighteen months, the Attica Consolidated School Corporation Board of School Trustees has undertaken a deliberate and transparent process to determine the future of the former Attica Elementary School property and surrounding assets. Beginning with property appraisals in January 2025, this initiative involved public discussions, meetings, bidder presentations, community input, and rigorous bid reviews. Throughout, the Board has prioritized compliance with Indiana law, public engagement, and the long-term impact on both the school corporation and the Attica community

The Board has reviewed multiple options and proposals, heard questions and concerns from community members, and taken seriously its responsibility as steward of public assets. The board approved the most credible and viable proposal. While residents hold diverse perspectives on the property's future, the Board believes the discussion has reflected the deep pride our community has in Attica and a shared desire to see the property contribute positively to our future.

As we considered these opportunities, we also evaluated them in the context of the overall health and direction of the school corporation. Attica Consolidated School Corporation is in a strong position today. Student enrollment has continued to grow, increasing from 526 students in February 2025 to 529 students in September 2025 and 535 students as of the start of this school year. The district has maintained financial stability while continuing to invest in students, staff, safety, and facilities. Over the past two years, the corporation has completed or advanced significant improvements, including natatorium renovations, HVAC modernization projects, LED lighting upgrades, enhanced security systems, technology investments, gymnasium improvements, and other facility enhancements across the district. Just as importantly, Attica enters the 2026-27 school year without a reduction in force and remains focused on providing exceptional opportunities for students while planning responsibly for the future.

However, recent zoning challenges mean the approved project is likely no longer a viable option, effectively changing the landscape for the former elementary school property.

The Board is actively evaluating the available paths forward to ensure any future decision serves the best interests of both the school corporation and the broader community. We deeply appreciate everyone's ongoing interest and encourage residents to stay informed.

Board meeting dates and times are posted on the corporation's website, and all sessions are livestreamed to ensure open access. We will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.
