Did you know it is important for 4 and 5 year olds to play? I had a previous student tell her sister,
“you will love Kindergarten because you learn so much but it feels like you are playing.” If you ever stop by our class you will see various types of play going on.
Today we learned about number lines. One side is the numbers 1-10 and for a challenge we can also use the side with the numbers 1-20. We had our bears find certain numbers today. After direct instruction it was free time to use your bears and number lines however you chose.
We had kiddos choosing to match each bear with a number, work on one to one correspondence and sort by color. They didn’t even know they were learning.
As a conclusion for our lesson, we had to figure out what was wrong in our number line. The sneaky 10 was not in the right spot! No worries we fixed it but many were quick to notice that our numbers were not in our usual 123 order. We now know how to order from small to big!!
Math might be our new favorite thing in Kindergarten.

JH Football played a great game tonight against North Newton. Forced 5 turnovers (4 int, 1 fumble) and ended in a tie. 6-6. Looking forward to watching this group grow and improve throughout the season.
AES FALL FUNDRAISER The AES Fall Fundraiser kicked off on Friday, August 25. Money and forms are due back Tuesday, September 5. Just a reminder that the money raised goes to field trips, playground equipment (balls, hula hoops, etc...), and convocations. 6th grade students in Mr. Newsome's Social Studies class have been learning about Aztec culture. Today they went down to the gym to play "Pok-a-Tok", an Aztec game that is similar to basketball.
Ms. Stockdell's AP Lit. students had their first socratic seminar of the year. Topic? Famous mystery detectives Holmes and Dupin and literary patterns
