Miss. Mickle’s first grade class started math stations today! They had so much fun, writing and tracing numbers. It was even more fun playing games afterward!

We had a great night for our cross country meet at Ravine Park. Both junior high teams took first place against Parke Heritage with a first place medalist finish from Maggie Cunningham and a third place medalist finish by Lucas Kirkpatrick. Abe Remaklus medaled for the varsity boys. The AHS runners collected lots of ribbons throughout the evening. Congrats to our “Goal Crusher, Elijah Lathrop and our newcomer to junior high, Keleigh Moore. Thanks to all the parents who assisted at the meet.

Did you know it is important for 4 and 5 year olds to play? I had a previous student tell her sister, “you will love Kindergarten because you learn so much but it feels like you are playing.” If you ever stop by our class you will see various types of play going on. Today we learned about number lines. One side is the numbers 1-10 and for a challenge we can also use the side with the numbers 1-20. We had our bears find certain numbers today. After direct instruction it was free time to use your bears and number lines however you chose. We had kiddos choosing to match each bear with a number, work on one to one correspondence and sort by color. They didn’t even know they were learning. As a conclusion for our lesson, we had to figure out what was wrong in our number line. The sneaky 10 was not in the right spot! No worries we fixed it but many were quick to notice that our numbers were not in our usual 123 order. We now know how to order from small to big!! Math might be our new favorite thing in Kindergarten.

The installation of our low ropes course has begun. This will provide opportunities for our students to learn about risk taking, how they perform under pressure, how they give and receive support from others, and how working with others can help an individual achieve more.
